Dreaming to become one with a horse is dreaming of participating in beauty, power, grace, freedom of movement, wildness... Body/Mind riding is the process of bringing forth into the light these qualities in ourselves that we so admire in horses. Through their acute sense of dignity and self preservation, horses teach us that these gifts are shared not taken. Movement is found in trust and deep listening ... horses do not ask us to be perfect but they do insist that we be unconditionally present with what is. By combining energy awareness, intention and focus we learn to fill in the gaps between our bodies and minds and enter a continuum where the dialogue can flow beyond words. By accessing inner silence and inner stillness we become more present and experience a lively connection with our horses. Accessing this state is the space of real power: where we move beyond our physical/mental limitations, learn, grow and heal. |
This space often referred to as the "Zone" in sports is a meditative state. In her book " Sensing, Feeling and Action" Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, a pioneer in the field of somatic education, suggests that what distinguishes high performing athletes and yogis if not what they can do with their bodies but the quality of the dialogue between their conscious and unconscious minds... |
Whatever the riding discipline, crafting harmony is based on the search for balance, rhythm and straighness. Both horse and rider learning to readjust and respond in maintaining the relationship . Willingness and trust are key elements to maintaining the flow. Body/Mind riding is an approach to riding whose primary goal is to nurture the space of the relationship between horse and rider in order to bring into focus what can be... Body/Mind riding encourages the process of awareness and natural balance as key to a happier partnership between horse and rider. Our life story inscribes itself in our body affecting the way we move, the manner in which we carry ourselves, the degree of flexibility and tension we manifest. With the regular practice of Reiki the body starts it's own unwinding and unravelling process. Body/Mind riding is about learning to listen, track and trust the body's intelligence as it guides us towards our natural alignment. Combining Reiki with riding enables the conscious integration of energy re-balancing. As holding patterns dissolve, our bodies soften, become more rhytmical and our ability to feel our horse opens up. There is no map to follow in this unfolding of the body. The map creates itself as we bring back into our awareness parts of our body that we could not sense, feel or visualize clearly. As we refine and clarify our body image we heal inner trauma out of our tissues and bring sensitivity back to those areas. It is more and more recognized that animals communicate through images just as our minds and bodies do. Every journey is unique and perfectly orchestrated by our innate wisdom to bring body, mind & soul back into aligment. |
